Is it permissible to write the Noble Qur'an or some of its verses in a form that is not usually easy to read?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Some teachers in one of the secondary schools mentioned that they have colleagues who brought a very small-sized Qur'an; they described it as being two and a half centimeters by three centimeters. Naturally, the writing in it is not clear, and they claim that it facilitates reading for them in school. Is it a form of respecting and magnifying the words of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) to shrink it to this size?

The Shaykh : There is no doubt that writing the Noble Qur'an in a form that is not usually easy to read is absolutely not a form of magnifying the words of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). Indeed, writing the Qur'an or some of its noble verses in a way that they are hung in the fronts of gathering places, with diacritical marks that obscure the reader's ability to read them as they were revealed, is undoubtedly something that aids in the distortion of the Noble Qur'an. From this category is what you mentioned regarding writing the Qur'an in a size of two and a half or three centimeters; this is undoubtedly something that does not aid in reading the Qur'an at all. Therefore, it is not permissible in the Shari'ah. It should be, as is the nature of the Noble Qur'an, clear, distinct, and explanatory. Writing it in small letters does not aid in this clear and distinct reading. One might be able to cite some hadiths here, but none of them are authentic; some of them prohibit saying "musayhif" (little Qur'an) or "musayjid" (little mosque), but we are in no need of citing such a hadith or anything similar to it that is not authentic in this matter for this issue. The important thing is that the Qur'an should be written with clear, vocalized script that has no ambiguity or confusion.
