Is it permissible for the leader of a group to expel one of its members if he causes problems for the group?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner: It was asked a few days ago that there is an Islamic group where one of its members disagreed with its leader in legal issues, jurisprudential differences, or in the means of da'wah, and he was expelled; so is it permissible for the leader to expel this member? And I commented after the session, I said... generally, so, for example, if this member means he brings troubles to the group, meaning due to his lack of knowledge and jurisprudence in da'wah, and he brings it problems as well, and he was advised more than once and did not accept the advice; so is it permissible for him to expel him? Is it permissible for the leader to expel him?

The Shaykh: I do not understand that expulsion is the solution, rather the solution is to suspend him, and that is enough, otherwise what is the meaning of expelling him from the group when he is one of them? All that is the case is that he took the wrong path for some matter, and the one who wants to expel him or wants to suspend him is more aware of the facts of what he did, so expulsion is not applicable at all in such a group.

The questioner: If this person is the leader himself, and his style - the group says - his style is not good, the group agreed, and instead of his stepping down from the leadership and appointing someone else, they expelled him from the leadership and from their group in one go.

The Shaykh: And were they pledged to him?

The questioner: No, at first no, no pledge.

The Shaykh: If there is no pledge - and it is not prescribed by nature for such groups -; then in that case, if the people of opinion, reason, knowledge, and religion agree to remove him from the leadership, this does not mean expulsion, it means, as I said earlier before you clarified that he is the leader who is expelled, so I thought he was an individual among the individuals, so I said: there is no need for expulsion, rather he is removed from the work in which he did wrong, and if the intention of the previous question is the imam of the group, the head of the group; then in that case, it is even more so that he should not be expelled, rather he is removed from this position or from this authority, and someone more qualified than him is appointed in his place, otherwise expulsion means that we open for him the path of malice and trickery against these groups, so the issue becomes more dangerous than if they suspended him and maintained his presence with the group.
And peace be upon you.
