The traveler who did not pray Maghrib and 'Isha' if he catches up with the imam in the second rak'ah; is the prostration for forgetfulness required of him?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : May Allah reward you with good. The same question: If he catches up with the imam in the second rak'ah of the 'Isha' prayer, does he become in the second rak'ah of Maghrib, where he sits for the tashahhud?

The Shaykh : He is following, he is following the imam.

The questioner : No, I mean, does he prostrate for forgetfulness?

The Shaykh : No, no, he does not prostrate, meaning, he is currently obligated to follow the imam. Even if the form of the prayer changes for him, he is a follower of the imam. For example, suppose he entered in the second rak'ah, and he is the one who is resident, not the imam. Is not this second rak'ah, which is the second for the imam, the first for this one who is behind by a rak'ah?

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : Okay, so this is the beginning of his prayer, the first part of his prayer. The order is disrupted regarding his prayer, but the excuse for that is that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The Imam is to be followed إنما جُعل الإمام لِيُؤتمَّ به
Sahih al-Bukhari 1236
. So, we do not look at the order of the prayer for this one who is behind, nor at the manner of what is obligatory for him if he were not behind. We do not look at that. Rather, we look at his current situation, considering that he is following this imam. And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The Imam is to be followed إنما جُعل الإمام لِيُؤتمَّ به
Sahih al-Bukhari 1236
to the end of the hadith, and it says at the end:
And if he prays standing, then you stand, and if he prays sitting, then you sit, all of you ولو صلى قائمًا فصلوا قيامًا ، ولو صلى جالسًا فصلوا جلوسًا أجمعين
. Knowing that standing is a pillar of the prayer; the prayer of one who is able to stand is invalid if he prays sitting in an obligatory prayer. So, if the Wise Lawgiver dropped a pillar of the prayer from him for nothing other than following the imam, then it is even more so that the obligatory thing, which in our case is the middle tashahhud, is dropped from him. Is that clear?

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : Anyone else?
