The Shaykh’s reminder regarding some of the sunnahs in the adhan.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : So I say: It should be that the adhan is also in accordance with the sunnah. Among the sunnahs in the adhan—in addition to what we have mentioned—is that the mu'adhdhin should not sing it with musical intonation, raising and lowering his voice according to musical laws. This is not permissible. The adhan must be a strong adhan with clear words, not one where some of the letters are lost in the folds of a melodious voice.
It is established that a man came to 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with them both) and said: "O 'Abdullah, I love you for the sake of Allah." He said: "As for me, I hate you for the sake of Allah." He said: "Amazing! I say: I love you for the sake of Allah, and you say: I hate you!" He said: "Yes; because you sing in your adhan, and you take a wage for it." So this intonation that dominates the mosques of Muslims today—if we said all of them, we would perhaps not be exaggerating, but let us be cautious and say that most of these mosques have an adhan that is not in accordance with the Shari'ah. There was an adhan in some of the Najdi lands that did not have this melodiousness, but—unfortunately—we deviated, and we began to imitate the Egyptians, Syrians, and Jordanians; because the era demands these intonations that they establish as a substitute for the songs that some of us are hesitant to listen to, and he is right in that, but the soul wants a substitute? The substitute is his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
He who does not recite the Qur'an in a pleasant tone is not of us. من لم يتغنَّ بالقرآن فليس منَّا
Riyad as-Salihin 1007
,
Read this Qur'an and sing with it before there come people who hasten it and do not delay it اقرؤوا هذا القرآن وتغنَّوا به قبل أن يأتِيَ أقوام يتعجَّلونه ولا يتأجَّلونه
. So the adhan must be without melodiousness, and this is the sunnah. And perhaps that will be realized—if Allah wills—in this mosque.
