The questioner : There are several mosques in my country, and on Friday most of these mosques call the adhan twice. Most of these mosques are for the Salafi brothers, who call the adhan only once. So I asked one of the brothers: Why is the adhan not called twice? He said to me: “Now, there are many mosques, and there is no need for two adhans.” I ask you, may Allah reward you, to issue a ruling on this matter.

The Shaykh : The first adhan for the Friday prayer is not known from the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Rather, the adhan in the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was only one. The same was the case in the time of Abu Bakr and 'Umar. In the time of 'Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him), the first adhan was added, so the Friday prayer came to have two adhans: the first and the second. The second is the one that is called when the imam is present, that is, in front of the imam, and the first is called before that.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : It is from the Sunnah of the Rightly Guided Caliph 'Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him). And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Hold fast to my Sunnah and the Sunnah of the Rightly Guided Caliphs after me. Hold fast to them and grip them tightly with your teeth. عليكم بسنتي وسنة الخلفاء الراشدين المهديين من بعدي تمسكوا بها وعضوا عليها بالنواجذ
.
If there is one person in the town who performs this first adhan and the people of the town hear it, as is the case when loudspeakers are present, then it is sufficient for the rest of the town, and the collective obligation is fulfilled by it. If someone were to say: “Then say that the collective obligation is also fulfilled by the second adhan, because people hear the adhan from the other mosques,” we would say: No, it is not the same. The second adhan is only called when the imam is present, and the presence of the imam differs from one mosque to another. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah bless you. This questioner has a final question with which we will conclude this session. He says:
