The questioner : I want to go to Makkah to perform 'Umrah for myself. Is it permissible for me, after I exit the state of ihram from the 'Umrah, to enter the state of ihram for another 'Umrah for my deceased father, which I dedicate to him? Then, is it permissible for me to exit the state of ihram from my father's 'Umrah and enter the state of ihram for another 'Umrah for my mother? Please give us a ruling, may Allah reward you. That is, three 'Umrahs at one time: one for me, one for my father, and one for my mother?

The Shaykh : This is a religious innovation (bid'ah) for a person to perform more than one 'Umrah in a single journey, because acts of worship are based on specific textual evidence. It is not reported from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) or from his Companions that they would return to al-Tan'īm to enter the state of ihram a second, third, or fourth time. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), when he entered Makkah for the 'Umrah of al-Qudayd, stayed for three days and did not repeat the 'Umrah. And during the Conquest of Makkah, he stayed for nineteen days and did not perform an 'Umrah. As for the hadith of 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her), it is a specific case. 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) entered the state of ihram for 'Umrah with the women of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) during the Farewell Pilgrimage. She entered the state of ihram for 'Umrah, but during the journey she started menstruating. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to her while she was crying and said to her:
What is making you cry? ما يُبكيك
She informed him, meaning that she had started menstruating. He said to her:
This is what Allah has ordained for all the daughters, of Adam إن هذا شيء كتبه الله على بنات ءادم
Sahih Muslim 1211i
He said this to comfort her and to let her know that this is not specific to her; all women menstruate. Then he ordered her to enter the state of ihram for Hajj, and she did so. She did not perform the acts of 'Umrah because she did not become pure until the Day of 'Arafah, and then it was over. She said: "O Messenger of Allah! The people are returning with an 'Umrah and a Hajj, and I am returning with only a Hajj." He said to her:
Your tawaf of the House and your sa'y between al-Safa and al-Marwah suffice for your Hajj and your 'Umrah. طوافك بالبيت وبالصفا والمروة يسعك لحجك وعمرتك
So her tawaf and sa'y sufficed for two pilgrimages. However, he saw that she was insistent on performing an 'Umrah, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) permitted her to perform an 'Umrah. He ordered her brother 'Abd al-Rahman to take her out to al-Tan'īm so she could perform an 'Umrah. He did not order her brother to perform an 'Umrah, nor did her brother perform one, because that is not prescribed. Her brother entered Makkah in a state of non-ihram, and she entered in a state of ihram for 'Umrah. She performed tawaf and sa'y, shortened her hair, and went to al-Madinah. This case is a specific matter with specific conditions. How can the door be opened and it be said that whoever wishes can return to al-Tan'īm and perform an 'Umrah? We say: No, two 'Umrahs in one journey are not allowed. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good, O Shaykh Muhammad. The sister says in this question.
