The Shaykh : As for what I wish to comment on regarding our recitation this evening, we all heard the reciter say or recite the saying of Allah the Exalted: [Fussilat 41:30-31] up to the end of the verses. In these noble verses, Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) informs us of the reward of those who said, "Our Lord is Allah," and then remained steadfast, meaning that they acknowledged and confessed that Allah alone is their Lord. We derive this exclusivity from the definiteness of the two pillars of the sentence, namely which sentence? , and where are its two pillars?
The student: ... .
The Shaykh : No.
The student: ... .
The Shaykh : "Our Lord" is the first pillar, which is the subject, and "Allah" is the second pillar, which is the predicate, and the two pillars here are definite.
The scholars of rhetoric have mentioned that one of the methods of exclusivity is the definiteness of the two pillars of the sentence, such that both ends are definite, meaning: "Our Lord is Allah alone; there is no Lord for us other than Him." This is the realization of tawhid (the oneness of Allah), and then they remained steadfast upon the Shari'ah of Allah, which is the realization of following [the Prophet].
He (Mighty and Majestic) says:[Fussilat 41:30] When?
Is it at the time of death, or in every place of fear?
The answer: Is it the second or the first?
The student: The first.
The Shaykh : The second, because the second is more general; in every place of fear, angels descend upon them to reassure them and settle their hearts, saying, "Do not fear and do not grieve."
Do not fear regarding something in the future, and do not grieve regarding something in the past.
A person is always distressed by the past and concerned about the future, so when fear of the future and grief over the past are removed from them, they attain rest and tranquility. So, fear, my brother, fear of what? Answer, may Allah bless you? No, that is not it, yes. Answer, is there no answer? Yes.
The student: Fear is regarding the future, and grief is regarding the past.
The Shaykh : Yes, you have done well. Do not fear regarding the future, and do not grieve regarding the past.
[Fussilat 41:30].
So when He negated from them what they fear and grieve about, He affirmed for them what they are pleased with:[Fussilat 41:30-31].
So the angels are the awliya (close friends of Allah) of the believers in this world and in the Hereafter. For this reason, you find that the believer is always correct in his words and actions, because Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) employs the angels to support him, as Allah the Exalted said:[Al-Anfal 8:12].
[Fussilat 41:31] Meaning in the Hereafter. [Fussilat 41:31] What you ask for. And this is the completion of bliss; indeed, Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) says in Surat Qaf: [Qaf 50:35].
Then He (Mighty and Majestic) said:[Fussilat 41:32]. And "nuzul" (provision) means the hospitality that is offered to a guest, so these people obtain what they desire and what they ask for as a provision from Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He), by His forgiveness for them and His mercy toward them, and they have reached this provision: [Fussilat 41:32].
(30) Indeed, those who have said, "Our Lord is Allah " and then remained on a right course - the angels will descend upon them, [saying], "Do not fear and do not grieve but receive good tidings of Paradise, which you were promised. (31) We [angels] were your allies in worldly life and [are so] in the Hereafter.
