Is it permissible to eat in the mosque, and is it permissible to prepare a collective iftar in the mosque?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : The second question, you mentioned it again, but the answer to it, meaning, did not reach the ears of the brothers while they were sitting: Is it permissible to eat in the mosque, and is it permissible to prepare a collective iftar in the mosque?

The Shaykh : Is the first one permissible, what is it?

The questioner : Eating.

The Shaykh : I heard iftar and said it.

The questioner : No, it is not.

The Shaykh : It is the same, right?

The questioner : It is permissible to eat in the mosque, and its leftovers, and to prepare a collective iftar in the mosque.

The Shaykh : Yes, indeed. Taking food in the mosque and making that a habit is not permissible, because the mosques were not built for this, as came in the authentic hadith. But if, meaning, a cold wave comes and a large group descends, and they are poor and in need of food and drink, and it is not possible to bring them down for one reason or another to a house due to the narrowness of the houses at that time, or in the desert, or in the open, they enter the mosque and eat for this temporary matter. As for making the mosque like a restaurant, even in some months like Ramadan, and for example, as they do in some mosques, this is something upon which the practice of the Salaf was not, first of all, and then it contradicts the principle of his saying (peace be upon him)
For the mosques were not built for that. إن المساجد لم تبن لهذا
Sunan Ibn Majah 767Sahih (Darussalam)
.

The questioner : Our Shaykh, it is in Ramadan in Madinah and Makkah.

The Shaykh : And this, we said, let it be covered, Professor.

The Shaykh : And the audience laughed.

The questioner : The long, wide table.
