Group Iftar

Fatwa No. ( 15616 )
Q: I heard from some of the brothers that group iftar—whether in the month of Ramadan or in voluntary fasting—is a religious innovation. Is this correct?
A: There is nothing wrong with breaking the fast in a group in Ramadan or otherwise, as long as one does not believe that this gathering is an act of worship; for Allah the Exalted said:[An-Nur 24:61] However, if there is a fear of showing off and seeking fame in breaking the fast in a group during voluntary fasting, because the fasters are distinguished from others, it is disliked for them to do so. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

There is no blame upon you whether you eat together or separately
لَيْسَ عَلَيْكُمْ جُنَاحٌ أَنْ تَأْكُلُوا جَمِيعًا أَوْ أَشْتَاتًا
