Principle: That everything done during the time of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) is a proof by the approval of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) or the approval of Allah for it.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : We have an important principle in the principles of jurisprudence, which is that everything done during the time of the Messenger (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) is a proof, whether we know that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) was aware of it and approved it, or we do not know. Because if we know that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was aware of it and approved it, it is established by the approving Sunnah. And if we do not know that he was aware of it and approved it, it is established by the approval of Allah for it.
For this reason, the Companions used the approval of Allah for them as evidence for the permissibility of 'azl. 'Azl is when a man has intercourse with his wife and ejaculates outside the place, so that she does not become pregnant. The Companions used to do this, and Allah the Exalted did not disapprove of it. And Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, if He does not like something, He disapproves of it, even if people do not know about it. Have you not seen His saying, the Exalted:
They conceal [their evil intentions and deeds] from the people, but they cannot conceal [them] from Allah, and He is with them [in His knowledge] when they spend the night in such as He does not accept of speech. And ever is Allah, of what they do, encompassing. يستخفون من الناس ولا يستخفون من الله وهو معهم إذ يبيتون ما لا يرضى من القول وكان الله بما يعملون محيطا
[An-Nisa 4:108]
.
So He disapproved of what they were plotting, which He did not like, even though people did not know about it. This indicates that anything that Allah the Exalted did not disapprove of, which occurred during the time of the revelation of the Qur'an in the life of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him), is considered what? It is considered a proof.
And this will benefit you, O student of knowledge, in a debate. If you argue with someone that this thing occurred during the time of the Messenger, and he says to you: "Bring the evidence that the Messenger was aware of it and approved it," what do you say? We say: If the Messenger did not approve it, then Allah the Exalted approved it. And if it were something that Allah did not like, He, Glorified and Exalted is He, would have disapproved of it.
Now, so we are talking about His saying, the Exalted:
And who is better in speech than one who invites to Allah and does righteousness and says, "Indeed, I am of the Muslims." ومن أحسن قولا ممن دعا إلى الله وعمل صالحا وقال إنني من المسلمين
[Fussilat 41:33]
.
So no one has better speech than the one who called to Allah, did good, and declared his Islam openly, saying: "Indeed, I am one of the Muslims."
And the Lord, Mighty and Majestic, when He mentions such things, He wants us to take them upon ourselves. They are not just stories to be told, but this is what Allah wants us to adopt so that we possess this description that Allah the Exalted mentioned.
And we had previously suggested that we read something from the Nawawi Forty in this session, and from the 'Umdat al-Ahkam in the morning session.
And to note, I would like to remind you that it is our custom that there is no lesson in the morning on Friday.
So do you have questions?
The student: Yes, there are questions.

The Shaykh : You are hiding some questions in your pocket. Yes.
The student: It separates.

The Shaykh : Rather, what separates is what goes into the pocket.
