A word on the connection between the outward and the inward.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : I begin with the opening of the need, which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) taught his Companions: All praise is due to Allah; we praise Him, seek His help, and ask His forgiveness. We seek refuge in Allah from the evils of our own souls and from the badness of our deeds. Whom Allah guides, none can mislead, and whom He leaves to mislead, none can guide. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, alone, with no partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and His Messenger. As for what follows, the best of speech is the speech of Allah, the best of guidance is the guidance of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), and the worst of matters are their innovations. Every innovation is a religious innovation, every religious innovation is misguidance, and every misguidance is in the Fire.
Many of the scholarly gatherings held in a place like this, which I am circling around, we take from such as his saying (peace and blessings be upon him) when he entered the mosque and found the people scattered in circles, he said to them
How is it that I see you in separate groups? ما لي أراكم عزين
Sunan Abi Dawud 4823Sahih (Al-Albani)
meaning not gathered, scattered, not gathered. Similarly, we take this meaning from the closeness of bodies from the wisdom of some of the rulings of the Shari'ah, which are outward physical rulings. Nevertheless, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) linked a very important matter to their violation. Although the violation is outward, he linked the effect of the violation to what is not outward, namely the hearts. I mean by this statement, for example, his saying (peace and blessings be upon him)
Do not be irregular لتسون صفوفكم أو ليخالفن الله بين وجوهكم
Sunan Abi Dawud 663Sahih (Al-Albani)
He considered the straightening of the rows in prayer as a means to establish affection and love in the hearts, and the opposite is the opposite. That is, if the Muslims are scattered in their rows and do not line up as the angels line up, and as he (peace be upon him) was concerned with straightening the rows as he was concerned with straightening the arrows, he (peace be upon him) established that neglecting this physical straightening harms what is in the hearts
Do not be irregular لتسون صفوفكم أو ليخالفن الله بين وجوهكم
Sunan Abi Dawud 663Sahih (Al-Albani)
There are many, and very many, things I do not want to lengthen by mentioning them now. There are many tapes in which this kind of speech is detailed. They all agree that the inward is connected to the outward. Sitting close together and embracing confirms love and affection in the hearts, and the opposite is the opposite. Therefore, he (peace be upon him) said, and with that I conclude my speech on this phenomenon
Beware! There is a piece of flesh in the body if it becomes good (reformed) the whole body becomes good but if it gets spoilt the whole body gets spoilt and that is the heart. ألا وإن في الجسد مضغة إذا صلحت صلح الجسد كله وإذا فسدت فسد الجسد كله ألا وهي القلب
Sahih al-Bukhari 52
And if the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), as you know, in the authentic hadith, gave the example of Muslims as one body, how would one body be, with its limbs close together or far apart? They must be close together. Therefore, what has become the custom of many people in the mosques, and some scholars, where the teacher sits in a chair, for example, with a very large circle around him, this is not an exaltation of the scholarly gathering. Rather, the narrower the circle and the more the people in the circle embrace one another, the more this is the true reverence for the knowledge that will be delivered to them. For this reason, I remind you, may Allah bless you, to note that sitting for knowledge should not be like this chaos, with each person sitting as he pleases, with meters between him and his brother. Rather, they should embrace so that your hearts may embrace. We ask Allah (Mighty and Majestic) to inspire us to act according to the law of our religion and to unite our hearts among us.
