The first criterion for the success of the Islamic awakening is that it be built upon the correct creed.

al-Eid Abbasi : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. All praise is due to Allah; we praise Him, seek His help, and seek His forgiveness. We seek refuge in Allah from the evil of our own souls and from the evil of our deeds. Whomsoever Allah guides, none can misguide, and whomsoever He misguides, none can guide. And I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah alone, with no partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and His Messenger.
As for what follows, the best of speech is the Book of Allah, and the best of guidance is the guidance of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). The worst of matters are those that are newly invented, and every newly invented matter is a religious innovation, and every religious innovation is misguidance, and every misguidance is in the Fire.
It is fitting to remind you on such an occasion that I mentioned to you yesterday, and I think most of you were present, that in this time, in these recent years, we are witnessing an Islamic awakening that gives people hope. Here and there, one finds the mosques filled, and the youth turning to the religion. Islamic books are being printed and are in high demand; they are the most widespread and popular books in the bookstores and at gatherings. Praise be to Allah, women are covering themselves and doing so in large numbers. Those who grow their beards and apply the Sunnah in their clothing, speech, and appearance are also numerous. I mentioned that this places a responsibility upon us and carries this great burden, for if this awakening is not guided, if it is not holding fast to correct knowledge, it will be lost in vain. This awakening undoubtedly needs criteria to regulate it and direction to guide it. All of this requires abundant knowledge derived from the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger. I mentioned to you yesterday some of the criteria that this awakening must follow.
The first is that it be built upon the correct Islamic creed. I mean, frankly, that it must be built upon the Salafi creed, frankly, with no ambiguity, no vagueness, and no hesitation. Unless it is so, it will cause Muslims to regress. It is not permissible for one of the causes that led Muslims to this decline, this regression, this humiliation, and this misery and wretchedness in which they are to be one of the causes that led them to that. It is not permissible for the path that we continue on, which we think will return us to our glory and our strength, and in which we persist, to remain rotting like a worm in the body of the Muslim community. For example, the science of theology in creed, sectarian rigidity and blind following in jurisprudence, the Sufi paths in morals, and the political methodologies that diminish the nations of disbelief and the ideas of disbelief in methodology, movement, and politics. It is not permissible for these foundations to be the basis upon which we build our renaissance and our awakening. I will not lengthen this, as I addressed it yesterday sufficiently.
