The Shaykh : I hope to be inspired to give a short address, given the current state of the Islamic world in general. I say: All praise is due to Allah; we praise Him, seek His help, and seek His forgiveness. We seek refuge in Allah from the evil of our own selves and from the evil of our deeds. Whoever Allah guides, no one can mislead, and whoever He misleads, no one can guide. And I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah alone, with no partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and His Messenger. As for what follows: It has become known today in the Islamic world that awakening, whose name has spread as the Islamic awakening. I certainly share with those people who apply this name to this awakening that has appeared in the Islamic world in general, in terms of returning to Islam and acting upon it, even if only to a degree. However, the nature of this awakening differs from one group of people to another. They all share in their return to their Islam and their religion, from which they had been negligent or largely turned away, to the extent that it could have been said at that time that nothing remained of Islam except its name. Now, without a doubt, the situation has changed from what it was a quarter of a century ago, as people have turned to their religion, but with a great difference, as I mentioned, between some people and others. Some of them returned to their religion with any concept, and some of those concepts may not be part of the religion and have no connection to Islam whatsoever, but it is known to them that it is part of Islam and they should return to it. Very few of these people had their awakening accompanied by a return to the correct Islam, derived from the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and following the methodology of our righteous predecessors. Few are the people who awoke and came to this truth, for there is nothing beyond it. Between these groups and those, there are people who want to return to the Book and the Sunnah and do not deny such a return, but they do not adhere to the necessity of this return being based on the Salafi concept, the concept of the righteous predecessors. It is sufficient for them that they are convinced of the necessity of returning to the Book and the Sunnah. As for how this return should be, this is something that only the fewest of the people of this awakening have realized. This is the first point; and the other point
