Some of the qualities that a caller to Allah must possess.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
al-Eid Abbasi : This awakening must be built upon men whom neither trade nor commerce diverts from the remembrance of Allah. Men who carry out the call to Allah with truthfulness, sincerity, and strength.
O John, take the Scripture with determination.
[Maryam 19:12]
Take what We have given you with determination
[Al-Baqarah 2:63]
Therefore, our concern and our thought, night and day, morning and evening, our primary occupation must be the call to Allah, and thinking about conveying the message to people, nurturing them, teaching them, warning them, and giving them good news. Warning them of the Fire and giving them good news of Paradise, as if we are looking at it, just as the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was burning with eagerness to call his people and to free them from what they were in of shirk (associating partners with Allah), because he was fully certain and had the image of the Hereafter, the image of the Fire and Paradise, present in his mind, as if he could see it, as he (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said:
If you knew what I know, you would laugh little and weep much, and you would not take pleasure in women on the beds, and you would go out to the roads, calling upon Allah the Exalted with supplication
This is how the true Muslim is. Of course, a person cannot be in that state of sensitivity and transparency all the time, but if he cannot be so all the time, let him be so at certain times, in moments of inspiration. When they come to him, he should benefit from them and make the best use of them and not waste them. With this sensitivity, when a person thinks of his father, his mother, his brothers, his neighbor, his relative, that these people will be food for the Fire, fuel for Hell, if they do not find guidance, if their creed is not correct, if their behavior is not upright, this drives him to work as a conveyor of the message, an advisor, and a preacher. And be assured that when words come from the heart, they enter the heart and affect people. The lack of impact of many preachers and orators on people is due to their lack of sincerity and the lack of interaction between what they say and their souls, and because many of them say what they do not do. As for the one who is burning with eagerness in the call, whose soul interacts with it, who it has penetrated to the depths of his conscience and mixed with his flesh and blood, he will affect people and turn them upside down. Words are also like living beings that move and have an effect. As it is said, "When a word comes from the heart, it enters the heart, and when it comes from the tongue, it does not go beyond the ear." So we must be of the type that interacts with its call and is sincere in it. Sincerity is one of the greatest signs of the believer. Sincerity means that when he calls people, he is truly sincere in his behavior, upright, calling them to something he feels and lives, and which is deeply rooted in his depths. This is sincerity, and therefore he will affect people. And praise be to Allah, the Muslim community has responsiveness. Allah the Exalted described it as:
You are the best nation produced [as an example] for mankind
[Ali 'Imran 3:110]
Unlike many of the previous nations, the nations of the prophets who were hard-hearted and had harsh hearts, who did not respond to the caller, and would put their fingers in their ears so they would not hear the words of the messengers, and cover their heads with their clothes, and turn away and mock. Praise be to Allah, we do not encounter this from people now. Most people, praise be to Allah, we see the fruits of our dealings with them: responsiveness. Praise be to Allah. If the Muslim caller is sincere and sits in a village and calls to Allah the Exalted with wisdom and good admonition, and is knowledgeable and God-fearing, we see that he affects the village within a few years, and the village is turned upside down. We see examples of this; we have seen it in Syria and elsewhere. Praise be to Allah, the responsiveness is abundant and good, and the soil is fertile, but it needs work and earnestness. If the people of falsehood find and work and toil, and you see them active, sacrificing money and the precious and effort, the communist effort of one who does not believe in Allah or the Last Day and does not expect any reward or gratitude, yet you see him sacrificing and enduring hardship, and they order him to distribute pamphlets in the darkness, in the early morning, he distributes them, endures adventures, travels from country to country to convey such and such, and he does it. And so it is with the seekers of this world, who have no desire for the Hereafter or for the great reward that the Muslim expects. Where are we, who believe in the Last Day and believe that the reward is unimaginable, as Allah the Exalted said in the Holy Hadith:
I have prepared for My righteous slaves (such excellent things) as no eye has ever seen, nor an ear has ever heard nor a human heart can ever think of.
Sahih al-Bukhari 7498
What is the matter with us that we turn away from all of this and settle for giving our call an hour or half an hour in the spare time, in what adds to our preoccupations, when we are free from the affairs of this world, then we work? In reality, if we are sincere in our call, we must be different from this pattern. The world should not be our greatest concern, and we should not give it this great attention that represents our faith. I mean, if one of us thinks about how many hours he works for the world, that means his attention is to this extent. So it must be as Allah the Exalted said:
But seek, through that which Allah has given you, the home of the Hereafter; and [yet], do not forget your share of the world. And do good as Allah has done good to you. And desire not corruption in the land. Indeed, Allah does not like corrupters." وابتغ فيما آتاك الله الدار الآخرة ولا تنس نصيبك من الدنيا وأحسن كما أحسن الله إليك ولا تبع الفساد في الأرض إن الله لا يحب المفسدين
[Al-Qasas 28:77]
And to Madyan [We sent] their brother Shu'ayb, and he said, "O my people, worship Allah and expect the Last Day and do not commit abuse on the earth, spreading corruption."
[Al-'Ankabut 29:36]
So I say, if we want this awakening to be guided, it must be built upon people who seek the Face of Allah and seek the Hereafter, and are ascetic regarding this world, and are sincere in their words and deeds. Many callers, you see, do not believe in their words, so people test them with a lie. They claim it is for the sake of the call. Sometimes some lies are discovered. Why for the sake of the call? What call? And your call is based on truth, and lying is not permissible except in specific places that the hadiths have specified. What about resorting to lying to your brothers, to those who share the call with you? One of them, I mean, told me news, then it was revealed to be a lie, so I asked him, and he said to me, "It is for the sake of the call." Where is the benefit of the call? And for you, how do you permit yourself what is not permissible? Also in prison, we sometimes found some of them swearing oaths, then we discover they are lies. He says, "I intended such and such." Where are you from the hadith:
An oath is to be interpreted according to the intention of the one who takes it
Sahih Muslim 1653b
You see devilish fatwas that do not meet with God-fearingness and do not meet with faith. There is no sincerity in the words. You used to hear exaggerations, we seek refuge in Allah. This is also one of the phenomena of partisan fanaticism. For example, one of them, from what I have heard, many of those I was with, of course the Muslim Brotherhood, some of them used to say to me to lure people to follow him and his group, saying, "Al-Banna was pledged allegiance to by Al-Kashani, the former Imam of the Shi'ah, in the fifties and sixties. Al-Mawdudi pledged allegiance to him. More than that, they said the last Ottoman Caliph gave him the papers of the sultanate, the papers of the caliphate, to be the caliph after him." And they forget the facts of history, my brother. When was the last Ottoman Caliph? 1923. Al-Banna was twenty years old. What did he know of him? And he had no mention of him after that. So you see them on illusions, not believing in their speech. So even with their followers, they lure them with these exaggerations and these nonsense and these words from here and there.
Sincerity is one of the most important qualities of the Muslim caller if he wants to be upon the Sunnah. In addition to sincerity in actions, he must be sincere, applying what he does. He does not order people to do good and forget himself. Many callers, in reality, it becomes clear to those who associate with them and mix with them that they do not attend the congregational prayers. Perhaps some of them, you see, are shaving their beards, and their sons and daughters are not at a level of God-fearingness, and he has not raised them with Islamic upbringing. You see he promises and does not fulfill, and many of his deeds you see are directed to this world and not for the Face of Allah. So where is the sincerity in actions, words, and intentions, so that they are qualified for the victory of Allah the Exalted? It is obligatory for the callers who oversee this awakening to have these qualities: the quality of asceticism regarding this world. The Messenger (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Be indifferent towards this world, and Allah will love you. Be indifferent to what is in people’s hands, and they will love you.
Sunan Ibn Majah 4102Da’if (Darussalam)

The second quality is sincerity in words, actions, intentions, and the call. The quality
The third is humility. Many callers, you see, when they read several books, they look down on people. He becomes an intellectual, God willing, he argues and silences, and may dare to challenge some scholars and publish that he argued with them and silenced them and established the proof against them. And you see much of this speech on their tongues. "By Allah, I established the proof against so-and-so." Therefore, we find that this is contrary to the guidance of the messengers and contrary to the guidance of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Humility is what the Muslim must be upon. The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) was humble to the young and the old, to the slave woman, to the child. He did not look down on anyone. The slave woman would take his hand until he fulfilled her need. So the character of the Messenger (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him), Allah the Exalted says:
So by mercy from Allah, [O Muhammad], you were lenient with them. And if you had been rude [in speech] and harsh in heart, they would have disbanded from about you. So pardon them and ask forgiveness for them and consult them in the matter
[Ali 'Imran 3:159]
So humility is a quality that makes people love you and brings them close to you and makes them accept your call and respond to you.
The fourth quality is the quality of justice, and justice and fairness, I mean in words and actions. Justice, you rarely find it in a person except one whom your Lord has shown mercy.
