Was it revealed to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) that he should part his hair in opposition to the People of the Book?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : It is said that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), in the beginning, "let his hair hang down as the People of the Book did, and he liked to agree with them in matters in which he had not been commanded otherwise."

The Shaykh: Yes.

The questioner : Then he began to part his hair.

The Shaykh: Yes.

The questioner : So the question here is: first, was it revealed to the Messenger that he should part his hair and oppose the People of the Book in that? And the second question is: how did he part it, from the middle, from the right, or from the left?

The Shaykh : As for the last question, it is not applicable.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : Because the basis of the matter is opposing the disbelievers.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : So if the disbelievers do not have a specific style, you may do whatever you wish with your hair, I say.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : You may do whatever you wish with your hair, but you must avoid imitating the disbelievers.

The questioner: Yes.
