The questioner : It is said that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) initially let his hair hang down as the People of the Book did, and he liked to agree with them in matters where he had not been commanded otherwise.

The Shaykh: Yes.

The questioner : Then he began to part his hair.

The Shaykh: Yes.

The questioner : So the question here is: First, was the Messenger revealed to part his hair and differ from the People of the Book in that? And the second question is: How did he part it? From the middle, from the right, or from the left?

The Shaykh : As for the last question, it is not applicable because the basis of the matter is differing from the disbelievers. If the disbelievers do not have a specific style, you may do whatever you wish with your hair. I say, with your hair, you may do whatever you wish, but you must avoid imitating the disbelievers.

The questioner: Peace be upon you.

The Shaykh : And upon you be peace and the mercy of Allah.

The questioner : I love you for the sake of Allah.

The Shaykh : May Allah love you, for you loved me for His sake.
