Did the Sunnah specify that the parting of the hair should be in the middle or on the side?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Did the Sunnah specify the location of the parting in the hair, whether it is in the middle or on the side, or...?

The Shaykh : What is it?

The questioner : Did the Sunnah specify that the parting of the hair is in the middle or on the side? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to part his hair and used to differ from the polytheists?

Another questioner : The parting, my Shaykh, I say something: does the parting mean moving it to our right or toward the left, or otherwise?

The Shaykh : Where is the mosque located?

The questioner : It is, my Shaykh, in front of us, now from here, the indication, my Shaykh, that we come from the direction of Oman.

Another questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : Parting the hair?

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : He used to part it and then let it hang down.

The questioner : Okay, is it criticized for one to part on the side?

The Shaykh : This question contradicts the previous question. Why would he part it when he knows that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) let it hang down?

The questioner : Because the vast majority now part on the side, so is that my intention!

The Shaykh : May Allah guide you. What do you want with the vast majority? The vast majority are those who display their adornment, the vast majority are those who shave their heads. What do you have to do with them? Are you asking to know about the majority and the minority, or to know the Sunnah? The Sunnah was that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) used to like to imitate the Christians, because they are People of the Book, and then he parted his hair afterward in opposition to them.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : How does the Muslim part it now?

The questioner : Then, if you permit me.

The Shaykh : Then the question comes: how is the parting done?

The questioner: Yes.
