The Shaykh’s commentary on Abu Malik’s statement, and his remarks on those who declare some of the Imams of the Salaf, such as Ibn Taymiyyah and Ibn al-Qayyim, to be disbelievers.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Abu Malik: This is what we profess to Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) and what we believe with certainty, and we ask Allah (Mighty and Majestic) to meet Him with this correct belief, if Allah wills. But it is not hidden from all the brothers, from every student of knowledge, and from the people of this true call upon which our affair has been established, if Allah wills, that those who claim to be Asha'irah and others from the sects that have deviated from Islam and distanced themselves from the true religion of Allah (Mighty and Majestic); it is not hidden from anyone that they declare us to be disbelievers, and at the head of this, they declare Ibn Taymiyyah and Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) to be disbelievers. And this belief alone, if it is established with certainty in their hearts and they say it and... and call people to believe in it, then in my opinion they exit the religion...

The Shaykh: There is an observation here—may Allah bless you—I said earlier that I do not know... that it is not permissible... rather... I do not know that the early Asha'irah and Maturidiyyah truly declare the people of the Sunnah and the community to be disbelievers; that is: they declare the people of hadith to be disbelievers, that is: they declare the followers of the Salaf who say that the scholars of the Salaf are more knowledgeable and more just, to be disbelievers. Those people say: The methodology of the Salaf is safer, but the methodology of the Khalaf is more knowledgeable and more just, they claim. Despite this great difference between the Salaf, or the methodology of the Salaf, or the Salafis, and these people from the scholars of kalam who are influenced by a type of Maturidiyyah and Asha'irah; I do not know from them that they declare those who follow the methodology of the Salaf to be disbelievers, but there may be specific individuals in the recent times.
Abu Malik: ...

The Shaykh: This is what I believe, by way of clarification and not by way of rebuttal. Yes, this is what I wanted to draw the attention of our brothers present to: there may be in the recent times someone who is severe... toward the Salafis, the followers of the righteous Salaf, and from some individuals among them, out of spite for these people, there emerges the declaration of disbelief against the Imams and scholars from the followers of the righteous Salaf, like Ibn Taymiyyah and Ibn al-Qayyim. Whoever this is revealed to us from, he is truly a disbeliever. And this "al-Saqqaaf" whom some rightly called "al-Sakhaaf" is the one who actually declares disbelief, not only against Ibn Taymiyyah and Ibn al-Qayyim al-Jawziyyah, but against everyone who follows their path. However, sometimes he would conceal and argue, and sometimes he would declare it with all lack of shame and contempt for the scholars, the scholars of the righteous Salaf. In such a case, this ruling applies to him.
Abu Malik: And this is what I loved...

The Shaykh : May Allah reward you with good.
