What is your opinion of the one who says or does something that contradicts the Sunnah, and when he is told that this is a mistake, he says, "Actions are only by intentions," or says, "Faith is in the heart"?

The questioner : Peace be upon you, and Allah's mercy and blessings.

The Shaykh : And upon you be peace, and Allah's mercy and blessings.

The questioner : What is your opinion of the one who says or does something that contradicts the Sunnah and the Shari'ah, and when you tell him, "This is a mistake," he says, "Actions are only by intentions," or says, "Faith is in the heart"?

The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and I send prayers and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions.
This excuse that this deviant uses is not acceptable.
Many people do forbidden things, so when you tell him, "My brother, fear Allah, this is forbidden," he says:
Actions are only by intentions
.
So we tell him: Fine, we accept this hadith
Actions are only by intentions
, but this action you performed is a forbidden action, so what is the intention that can be attributed to this forbidden action? Every forbidden action is haram (forbidden), whether a person intends good by it or intends evil by it, as long as the Shari'ah has prohibited it, it is haram (forbidden).
Many people also excuse themselves with another excuse. You say, "This is a forbidden action," and he says
Taqwa (mindfulness of Allah) is here التقوى ها هنا
And this argument he made, or this word he said, was said by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He said:
Taqwa (mindfulness of Allah) is here التقوى ها هنا
. As if he is saying: Taqwa (mindfulness of Allah) is not in the apparent actions, but rather in the heart. So we tell him: You are right, taqwa (mindfulness of Allah) is here, but if he feared Allah in what is here, his limbs would fear Him. Because the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Beware! There is a piece of flesh in the body if it becomes good (reformed) the whole body becomes good but if it gets spoilt the whole body gets spoilt and that is the heart.
Sahih al-Bukhari 52
If the heart were righteous, the limbs would be righteous. If the heart were righteous, the person would perform the obligatory. If the heart were righteous, the person would leave the forbidden.
Many people have their garment, and he is a man, hanging below the ankles, and letting the garment hang below the ankles is haram (forbidden), indeed it is from the major sins, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) threatened with it and said:
But whatever is lower than the ankle is in the Fire
Sunan Ibn Majah 3573
. So when you tell him, "My brother, raise your garment," he says, "Taqwa (mindfulness of Allah) is here," and points to his chest. Our answer to this is easy. We say: If he feared Allah in what is here, his limbs would fear Him, and this will not benefit you on the Day of Resurrection. When you stand before Allah (Mighty and Majestic), Allah will hold you accountable for this action, and on that day you will not find anyone to defend you, neither for this nor for anything else. So the important thing is that some people argue with the hadith: إنما الأعمال بالنيات ، وبعض الناس يحتج بحديث ايش؟ التقوى ها هنا ، وكلاهما لا حجة فيه، نعم. Actions are only by intentions, and some people argue with the hadith, what is it? Taqwa (mindfulness of Allah) is here, and neither of them is an argument, yes.
