Speaking about reviving the Sunnah of the festival prayer in the open-air prayer ground.

The Shaykh : Before this blessed gathering disperses, may Allah will it, I wish to remind the brothers that we will soon be praying the festival prayer in the usual open-air prayer ground, or the circular one over there. Due to the large number of people—praise be to Allah—who are eager to follow and continue reviving this Sunnah of going out from some of the mosques to the open-air prayer ground for the two festival prayers, it has become difficult for us to prepare enough mats and rugs to accommodate all the people. Therefore, in the spirit of cooperating in righteousness and piety, every worshipper who is keen on praying in the open-air prayer ground should bring with him a carpet or prayer mat, as it is called today. This is something every individual can do. However, there may be some individuals, like myself, whom Allah—Mighty and Majestic—has blessed with a car, and many of these brothers have cars. So we suggest to them that they deposit in their cars whatever mats they have available, so that we can cooperate to spread the ground with these mats voluntarily. We do have many rugs, of course, but they are not sufficient for this increasing number over time.
So our appointment, may Allah will it, will be for the festival prayer, either on Sunday or Monday. Let each of you bring whatever carpet is available to him. I will, however, so that you are not caught off guard, celebrate the festival—may Allah will it—in Amman, and we are in the process of reviving this Sunnah there for the first time. Therefore, I will travel tomorrow, may Allah will it. If the festival falls on Sunday, we will be there, so we will revive this Sunnah there, and our brothers will continue, and the callers to this Sunnah and its revival will increase there. May this Sunnah spread throughout the length and breadth of the Islamic lands, and may that be a sign that people are keen to adhere to the Sunnah in every matter, small or large. By doing so, we will take steady steps toward realizing the Islamic society that many people, indeed many Islamic callers, seek in words but not in deeds. We must make Islam walk on the earth through us, with our persons and our souls, not with our words and the movement of our tongues. This is how we must revive the Sunnah of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in our lands. May that be a sign of good for realizing the Islamic society and establishing the Muslim state, and that is not difficult for Allah.
And peace be upon you, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.
