The Shaykh : The hadith that follows, according to the convention we have established in all our previous lessons, is a blank space. As for the one that comes after it, it is weak. Now, here is another hadith, authentic like the previous one, which is his statement: And from Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
When a slave falls ill or travels, then he will get reward similar to that he gets for good deeds practiced at home when in good health. إذا مرض العبد أو سافر كتب له مثل ما كان يعمل مقيما صحيحا
Sahih al-Bukhari 2996
Narrated by al-Bukhari and Abu Dawud. This hadith is among the hadiths in which the favor of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) toward His servants is made manifest, as it explicitly states that if a Muslim has a habit of obeying Allah (Mighty and Majestic) in his state of residence and in his state of health, and then travel necessitates it for him or illness befalls him, diverting him from that habit of worship and obedience, then as for travel, it is undoubtedly a preoccupation that diverts a person from many important matters. So it is no wonder that Allah (Mighty and Majestic), by His wisdom, lightened many of the acts of worship, indeed the obligatory ones, for His servants when they are travelers. So here, with this lightening of the obligatory acts of worship and obedience for the traveler, if this traveler has a habit in his state of residence of worship, of obedience, of being consistent with voluntary acts, such as the sunnahs and others, and then he is unable to do so, either by legal ruling or by divine decree, because he is a traveler and cannot perform those acts of worship and obedience that he was accustomed to, then Allah (Mighty and Majestic) writes them for him as if he had performed them while resident. This is one case. Likewise, if a person is afflicted with illness and his illness diverts him from the obedience and worship he was eager to perform, then Allah (Mighty and Majestic) also bestows favor upon this sick person by commanding the angels to write for him what he used to do in his state of health and vigor.
That is from the favor of Allah upon us and upon the people, but most of the people are not grateful. ذلك من فضل الله علينا وعلى الناس ولكن أكثر الناس لا يشكرون
[Yusuf 12:38]
