Is it recommended to perform 'Umrah on the night of the twenty-seventh of Ramadan, and is that the Night of Decree?
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Based on this, we ask: Is this night the night of the twenty-seventh, such that it is recommended to perform 'Umrah on it, or to intend to perform 'Umrah on it, or not? The answer is: No. Therefore, whoever intends to perform 'Umrah on the night of the twenty-seventh of this month has done something for which there is no evidence.
It is true that the Night of Decree has a special status regarding standing in prayer, not regarding performing 'Umrah, based on the saying of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him):Sunan an-Nasa'i 2193Sahih (Darussalam), and he did not say: "Whoever performs 'Umrah on the Night of Decree..." While he said regarding the month of Ramadan: Jami` at-Tirmidhi 939Sahih (Darussalam), and he did not say: "An 'Umrah on the night of the twenty-seventh is equal to a Hajj."
For this reason, I advise my Muslim brothers who seek the Face of Allah to make their actions in accordance with the Shari'ah of Allah, because merely having a sincere intention and seeking the Face of Allah is not sufficient for the acceptance of the deed, as you heard in the hadith of A'ishahSahih Muslim 1718b. I have not found in the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) any evidence indicating that it is recommended to perform 'Umrah on the night of the twenty-seventh. In fact, the night of the twenty-seventh for performing 'Umrah is like the night of the twenty-sixth, the twenty-fifth, the twenty-first, the tenth, or the first of the month.
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 939Sahih (Darussalam), an 'Umrah on the twenty-seventh has no special merit.
And this is the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) before us.
And for a person to worship Allah with emotion does not benefit him, because worshipping Allah with emotion without a Shari'ah basis to which the worshipper can refer is following one's desires, because the Shari'ah has specific, regulated limits in every aspect, so that people do not differ in it and become divided into sects, every party rejoicing in what they have.
Furthermore, the Night of Decree is not specific to the night of the twenty-seventh, because the texts transmitted from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) indicate that the Night of Decree moves through the years; sometimes it is the night of the twenty-third, sometimes the night of the twenty-fifth, sometimes the night of the twenty-seventh, sometimes the night of the twenty-ninth, sometimes the night of the thirtieth, sometimes the night of the twenty-eighth, sometimes the night of the twenty-sixth, and sometimes the night of the twenty-fourth. Indeed, it is established in the two Sahihs that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed i'tikaf in the middle ten days seeking the Night of Decree. He came out to his Companions on the night of the twenty-first and informed them that he had been performing i'tikaf seeking the Night of Decree, and that he (peace and blessings be upon him) was shown the Night of Decree, shown to him in the last ten days, but he was made to forget it, by the wisdom of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). He (peace and blessings be upon him) said:.
He was shown a sign that he would prostrate in its morning, meaning in the Fajr prayer, in water and mud. Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) said:. So when was it that year? When was it? There is no doubt, my brothers. When was it that year? It became the night of the twenty-first, because he was shown its sign, which is that he would prostrate in its morning in water and mud. So the sky rained that night, he prayed Fajr, and he left his prayer with the mark of water and mud on his forehead. So it was the night of the twenty-first in that year.
And he said: to the end of the hadith, and this indicates that it may move and that it is not fixed to the night of the twenty-seventh.
I said this because many Muslims are eager to stand in prayer at night on the night of the twenty-seventh, while they are lax in standing in prayer at night on any other night. And what do these people know? Perhaps the Night of Decree is on a night other than the twenty-seventh in that year, and they are deprived of its good because of their reliance on it being fixed to the night of the twenty-seventh.
It is true that the Night of Decree has a special status regarding standing in prayer, not regarding performing 'Umrah, based on the saying of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him):
Whoever spends the night of Lailat Al-Qadr in prayer out of faith and in the hope of reward, he will be forgiven his previous sins.
من قام ليلة القدر إيماناً واحتساباً غفر له ما تقدم من ذنبهUmrah during Ramadan is equal to Hajj
عمرة في رمضان تعدل حجةFor this reason, I advise my Muslim brothers who seek the Face of Allah to make their actions in accordance with the Shari'ah of Allah, because merely having a sincere intention and seeking the Face of Allah is not sufficient for the acceptance of the deed, as you heard in the hadith of A'ishah
He who did any act for which there is no sanction from our behalf, that is to be rejected.
