Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : He says:The questioner : I ask for an answer to this question, for I am, praise be to Allah, eager for Islamic knowledge. Allah has granted me a talent for memorization, but I do not understand even some of the most obvious matters, and I am shy to ask about them. The question is: should I memorize only without understanding, is one lesson per day sufficient for me, and should I abandon the pursuit of knowledge if I do not understand?

The Shaykh : I say: make use of this blessing that Allah has bestowed upon you, which is memorization. Memorize, and then afterwards you will understand. Memorize as long as the matter is easy for you, and then understand the meaning afterwards. Know that a person at the beginning of seeking knowledge finds it difficult to understand the words of the scholars and finds understanding difficult, but with practice it becomes easy for him to understand the words of the scholars and the evidence of the Shari'ah. So I advise you to memorize and to seek knowledge, combining the two matters, and Allah will open the door for you, if Allah wills. Yes.
