The Shaykh : All right, a student of knowledge needs books without which his pursuit of knowledge is incomplete, and he has not performed Hajj, and he has money. If he buys the books, he cannot perform Hajj, and if he performs Hajj, he cannot buy the books. What should he do? Should he buy the books and not perform Hajj, or not buy them? We say: buy the books, buy what you need. Do not make a large, world-class library. Buy what you need, and perform Hajj afterwards, because Allah the Exalted said: [Ali 'Imran 3:97]. For the person who needs books, the need for books is like the need for food and drink, and it may be even more intense. The true student of knowledge sees that books are for him in the position of food and drink, or even more so. Therefore, if a person has a debt, he prioritizes the debt over Hajj. If he needs essential things, he prioritizes the essential needs, and in this way the person attains tranquility.
