The third question of Fatwa No. ( 21683 )
Q 3: Distinguished Shaykhs: Is there an authentic hadith regarding exchanging greetings and shaking hands with a group of brothers that causes sins to fall like the leaves of trees ? If so, I would like to be informed of the hadith.
A 3: It is established in (Sahih al-Bukhari ): It was said to Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him): Did handshaking exist among the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)? He said: Yes. And from al-Bara' ibn 'Azib (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2727Da'if (Darussalam) It was narrated by Imam Ahmad and Abu Dawud and al-Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah and others.
And there are hadiths that strengthen one another regarding handshaking being a cause for the erasure of sins, just as the leaves of trees fall, such as the hadith: It was narrated by al-Tabarani in (al-Awsat) from the hadith of Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him). And from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: It was narrated by al-Bazzar . And you should refer to (al-Targhib wa al-Tarhib) by al-Hafiz al-Mundhiri , for it is beneficial. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions.

No two Muslims meet each other and shake hands, except that Allah forgives them before they part.
ما من مسلمين يلتقيان فيتصافحان إلا غفر لهما قبل أن يفترقاAnd there are hadiths that strengthen one another regarding handshaking being a cause for the erasure of sins, just as the leaves of trees fall, such as the hadith:
When a believer meets a believer and greets him and takes his hand and shakes it, their sins fall off just as the leaves of trees fall
إن المؤمن إذا لقي المؤمن فسلم عليه وأخذ بيده فصافحه تناثرت خطاياهما كما يتناثر ورق الشجرWhen a Muslim shakes hands with his brother, their sins fall off just as the leaves of trees fall
إن المسلم إذا صافح أخاه تحاتت خطاياهما كما يتحات ورق الشجر
