Some say that this is an opportunity for some Kuwaitis who intend to establish a Sunni state on the land of Kuwait, after expelling the Iraqis from it.

The questioner : There are some brothers who belong to the people of the Book and the Sunnah who see in the recent events an opportunity, for example, to establish a Muslim state. This is not to support the ruler of Kuwait, but to establish a Muslim state in Kuwait. They are people of good character. So, is it permissible to fight the Iraqis to expel them from Kuwait and to establish an Islamic state on the methodology of the pious predecessors? Is this permissible, for example, or is it permissible for them to do so?

The Shaykh : We are still living in dreams. Have they prepared the means?

The questioner : I do not know.

The Shaykh : You do not know. Well, Allah is the Helper, my brother. Did these people think of this now, or before now? That is the question. Second, before now, they were able to do it but did not. Now they are able to do it, so they want to do it?

The questioner : Now they have less capability, and Allah knows best.

The Shaykh : So how do they think like this? Allah is the Helper, my brother. This is a very strange matter. I mentioned to some of our brothers that in some hadiths, it is stated that in the time of trials, there will be men with no minds, or whose minds are like dust. Most of them think they are on the right path, but they are not. And this is who we mean? People like us, the committed ones. As for the others, speak about them, there is no harm, as the Syrian proverb says: "My stick scatters them, and my stick gathers them." As for people like us, the committed to the Shari'ah, because we do not handle matters well in light of the Book and the Sunnah, first due to our ignorance of them, and second due to our knowledge of reality, our emotions take over, and we lean toward these people one time and those people another time. Where were these people you referred to, my brother, before? They were living in states that had a grip on their throats; they could not lean to the right or to the left. What happened now that made them think of establishing a Muslim state? The Emir of Kuwait is paying billions, as we read in the news and newspapers, in order to return to his throne, to his kingdom. Do you see if he hears that there is a young, enthusiastic generation for Islam who want to establish the state of Islam in place of the state of these princes? These people will be the first to fight them. Not only the Americans and the British and Iraq and all the Arab states will be against them. Now, I am amazed, meaning, how do people think? If this group or this small handful declares it openly, it will be against all Muslims and disbelievers. How do these people think of establishing the Muslim state? This is all because they did not know the guidance of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in establishing the state. We summarize his guidance in two words: purification and education, purification and education. And finally, So we ask Allah (Mighty and Majestic) to protect us from the evil of trials, whether apparent or hidden.
