Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Abu Layla : This is our Shaykh; he was French and has converted to Islam.

The Shaykh : What Allah willed.
Abu Layla : A year and a half ago.

The Shaykh : We congratulate you on your Islam. He was French and [speaks] the language.
Abu Layla : And everything.
Al-Halabi : Up to now, he does not speak.

The Shaykh : And now?
Al-Halabi : He does not speak except the word jihad in the path of Allah.
Abu Layla : He has excellent military experience; he has fought in several wars...
The soldier: In French.

The questioner : He is a new convert to Islam. He is asking about before he embraced Islam: does it mean that the sins he committed are forgiven for him or not?

The Shaykh : Yes, they are forgiven for him. And Islam says the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Islam wipes out what came before it. الإسلام يجبّ ما قبله
