Al-Halabi : Our Shaykh, before Abu Yahya arrives, because the research is connected to him regarding Ibn Kathir and al-Wahidi’s Asbab al-Nuzul (occasions of revelation).
The Shaykh : Good.
Al-Halabi : About
The Shaykh : The verse
Al-Halabi : The verse that appeared to me, my Shaykh, after looking into this, and Allah knows best, is that most of it consists of mu'addal and mursal reports, indeed mu'addal, meaning
The Shaykh : Good.
Al-Halabi : He says: “And Sa'id ibn Jubayr, Mujahid, Ata, Amr ibn Dinar, and a group said it was revealed regarding listening to the imam in the sermon on Friday.” This is al-Wahidi. Ibn Kathir says the same thing, but he provides some chains of narration. He says: “Shu'bah said from Mansur, I heard Ibrahim ibn Abi Hamza narrating that he heard Mujahid say regarding this verse, in the prayer and the sermon on Friday. And Ibn Jurayy narrated from Ata similarly. And Hisham said from al-Rabi' ibn Subayh from al-Hasan, in the prayer and during dhikr. And Ibn al-Mubarak said from Baqiyyah, I heard Thabit ibn Ajjalan say, I heard Sa'id ibn Jubayr say: The verse is about listening on the Day of Sacrifice, the Day of Breaking the Fast, and Friday, and in what the imam recites aloud in the prayer. And this is the choice of Ibn Jarir, that the intended meaning is listening in the prayer and in the sermon, as came in the hadith regarding the command to listen behind the imam and during the sermon. And Abd al-Razzaq said,” but this which he mentioned
The Shaykh : What did Abd al-Razzaq say?
Al-Halabi : “And Abd al-Razzaq said from al-Thawri from al-Layth from Mujahid that he disliked if the imam passed by a verse of fear or a verse of mercy that anyone behind him should say anything. He said: Silence.”
