The Ruling on a Muslim Seeking the Aid of a Disbeliever to Repel an Aggressor

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : And therefore, she and the scholars with her declared that it is obligatory for them to seek the aid of disbelievers to repel the injustice of the oppressor and the rebel against Kuwait, and against any other rebellion that may follow this one. Here, another error began, which is seeking the aid of disbelievers. We used to say, first, that when it became clear to people that the Americans wanted to fight Iraq, we used to tell the enthusiastic Muslims who wanted to fight alongside the Iraqis: "Hold on and be cautious, for if you are able to fight with Iraq, your intention is to fight the Americans, but you will end up fighting your Muslim brothers. This is because the Americans and those with them from the French and the British will offer up a sacrificial lamb for this battle that is about to take place. Muslims will fight one another, and they used their power, which is nothing but the power of weapons. They are the most concerned about life, and therefore they are stingy with the blood of their people and sacrifice them with the blood of the Muslims who sought their aid. So we used to say to these enthusiastic people, using the wording of the authentic hadith:
Be like the carpets in your houses. كونوا أحلاس بيوتكم
Because this fitnah (trial) that has begun to spread its horns has no fighting on either side of the conflicting parties that can be called jihad in the cause of Allah. There was no jihad at all, but rather there was fighting, and this fighting was not intended to be jihad in the cause of Allah. Otherwise, the way, as we said, would have been for Muslims to cooperate to repel the rebellion of the rebel. Then the matters escalated and became clear, and indeed the states called the allies attacked Iraq. Here, it appeared to me that it is obligatory for the remaining Islamic states to be supportive of Iraq in fighting the allies. But none of them moved except individuals from the populations. So I also advised these individuals not to rush to go to Iraq, because their going would not result in victory to repel the disbelieving allies back to their heels, because these are enthusiasms based on individuals, and there is no regular army. This was our position first.
Be like the carpets in your houses. كونوا أحلاس بيوتكم
Then, when the event happened and we saw that the allies would destroy the Iraqi army and the Iraqi people, we said that it is obligatory for the remaining Islamic states to be with Iraq. But as you know, even these remaining states are still walking in the train of the Americans. This is my opinion regarding what happened, and perhaps I have answered what you asked, even if your question was brief. And there may be something I missed, so remind me of it, if Allah wills.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good.

The Shaykh : And beware of that.
