The Story of Mu'awiyah ibn al-Hakam al-Sulami and Mention of Its Benefits

The Shaykh : Imam Muslim narrated in his Sahih from the hadith of Mu'awiyah ibn al-Hakam al-Sulami. Mu'awiyah ibn al-Hakam is not Mu'awiyah ibn Abi Sufyan al-Umawi, the well-known caliph who was in Damascus in Sham. Mu'awiyah ibn al-Hakam al-Sulami tells us about the story that happened to him while he was praying behind his Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) one day. He said: "I prayed behind the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and a man next to me sneezed, so I said to him: May Allah have mercy on you—while he was praying. He said: So they looked at me like this, silencing me. I said: Wathakala ummiya, why are you looking at me? He was praying, he was praying, and his prayer was accepted. I wonder what you think—did his prayer become invalid? " Meaning, be quiet, this is not a time for speech. He said: "When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) finished, he turned to me." Imagine, the story happened today behind an imam from the imams of the Muslims, if Allah wills. Today he made a mistake, he realized he made a mistake, and the imam came to him. He would have to hit him. It would be a mess. He might hit him, he might scold him, he might cut him off. He is an animal, he doesn't understand, he is ignorant, and so on. Allah knows what went through the mind and thoughts of this Mu'awiyah. But he said: "When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) finished, he turned to me. By Allah, he did not humiliate me, nor did he overpower me, nor did he hit me, nor did he curse me. He only said to me: Riyad as-Salihin 700" This man was taken aback by what he had not expected. He realized from the silencing of the Companions that he had committed a mistake. This means that the man was a recent convert to Islam and did not yet know the rulings related to prayer. So after he realized he was wrong, imagine he expected a very severe shock from the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). But he saw nothing but the gentleness and the mercy with which the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) was described, [At-Tawbah 9:128] which prepared the environment that opens the way for him to learn...
