Explanation of the athar of 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him): "We are a people whom Allah has honored with Islam..."

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Praise is to Allah; we praise Him, seek His help, and seek His forgiveness. We seek refuge in Allah from the evil of our own souls and from the evil of our deeds. Whomsoever Allah guides, none can misguide, and whomsoever He misguides, none can guide. I bear witness that there is no deity but Allah alone, with no partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and His Messenger.
O you who have believed, fear Allah as He should be feared and do not die except as Muslims [in submission to Him].
[Ali 'Imran 3:102]
O mankind, fear your Lord, who created you from one soul and created from it its mate and dispersed from both of them many men and women. And fear Allah, through whom you ask one another, and the wombs. Indeed Allah is ever, over you, an Observer.
[An-Nisa 4:1]
(70) O you who have believed, fear Allah and speak words of appropriate justice. (71) He will [then] amend for you your deeds and forgive you your sins. And whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger has certainly attained a great attainment.
[Al-Ahzab 33:70-71]
As for what follows, the best of speech is the speech of Allah, the best of guidance is the guidance of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), and the worst of matters are their innovations. Every innovation is a misguidance, every misguidance is in the Fire. After that, I begin this talk with what is narrated and authentic from 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), that he said: "We are a people whom Allah has honored with Islam, so whenever we seek honor through anything other than it, we will be humiliated." You know that the Islam which 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) means in this noble word is the Islam that Allah revealed to the heart of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). This is the Islam about which our Lord (Mighty and Majestic) said in the Qur'an:
And whoever desires other than Islam as religion - never will it be accepted from him, and he, in the Hereafter, will be among the losers.
[Ali 'Imran 3:85]
This is a reality about which there is no doubt or uncertainty for any of the Muslims. Therefore, we do not dwell on it for long, but I wish to draw attention to what we have always been and continue to be preoccupied with, constantly and forever. This is our duty, we who call to the Book and the Sunnah upon the methodology of the righteous Salaf: that this Islam, which Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) does not accept from any human being other than it, is not the Islam known today by many Muslims, let alone others. This is because what has entered into this Islam that was revealed to the heart of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) is not from it, in terms of creed, jurisprudence, and conduct. Therefore, we are always preoccupied with adhering to this pure, refined Islam that came from him (peace and blessings be upon him), which he explained to the noble Companions, and then it was transmitted to us by the later generations from the earlier ones through the authentic chains of narration known to the people of hadith and the Sunnah. For this reason, we advise the Muslim youth in every time and every place, especially in this time when various trials of every kind have multiplied, from every cause of disagreement that brings about the division which our Lord (Mighty and Majestic) forbade in more than one verse, and our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) explained it in many hadiths, from which you know the good thing, if Allah wills (Blessed and Exalted is He). But I want to remind you of one hadith, namely his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
I have left you upon a white, clear path, its night like its day.
Its night like its day, and none strays from it except one who is destroyed.
And in another wording:
Except one who deviates.
Therefore, when trials surround the Muslims, the only refuge is to Allah.
