Ali Hasan's intervention regarding following the customary practices of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Ali: Our Shaykh, on a point here, to complete the same discussion

The Shaykh : Please go ahead.
Ali: Our Shaykh, is it not said that the basis of this discussion came without evidence that the Messenger performed this act following the custom of his people?

The Shaykh : By Allah, this is difficult to state, because when can this be said? It can be said with certainty if it was not preceded by it
Ali: What do you mean, my teacher, "not preceded by it"?

The Shaykh : Not preceded, meaning he brought something that was not the custom of the Arabs

Another questioner : No one did it before him

The Shaykh : For example, if the Arabs were generalizing, then it is generalization. In this case, we cannot say he did it following the custom of his people. When can we say this? As mentioned earlier, if a hadith comes that includes it in the practices of worship
Ali: Correct, our Shaykh, but my intention is the process of proof. We do not deny, but also it does not mean, we do not obligate proof, just as we do not deny

The Shaykh : Ah
Ali: This is my intention

The Shaykh : Meaning, we do not say he did it following
Following, this is my intention, my Shaykh

The Shaykh : Yes, this can be said. We cannot say anything except as was said, that this can be said. That is, we cannot be certain that the Messenger (peace be upon him) did something from the customary practices because his people used to do it. This can be said, and the opposite can be said. Now I will mention something that may be an argument for what was said

Another questioner : May you be in good health and well-being

The Shaykh : I will mention the hadith of al-Dhab, when it was eaten at his table (peace be upon him), and note that he disliked it. They asked him: Is it forbidden? He said: No, but it was not in the land of my people, so I find my self repulsed by it. So, corresponding to "I find my self repulsed by it," is "I find my self accepting it," whether it is from the custom of the Arabs or not from the custom of the Arabs.
