Do I sometimes recite Surat Qaf in the Friday sermon? Even though the hadith of Maymunah indicates the continuity of reciting it, what is your comment on this?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Abd al-Malik: Our Shaykh, in the Friday sermon I recite Surat Qaf, but not always, even though the hadith suggests continuity. I think it is the hadith of Maymunah in Sahih Muslim?

The Shaykh : But the hadith does not indicate what you are saying.
Abd al-Malik: She said that he used to recite it in every Friday sermon. What is your comment on this?

The Shaykh : I mean, he used to recite it in every Friday sermon?
Abd al-Malik: Yes.

The Shaykh : Is that the text?
Abd al-Malik: Yes, yes, that is the text.

The Shaykh : And nothing else?
Ali: I did not memorize it.

The Shaykh : Yes, except from the sermon of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him).
Abu Layla : Is that the one you memorized, our Shaykh?

The Shaykh : No, we are not researching this right now. The important thing is, do you memorize this text you mentioned?
Abd al-Malik: Yes, yes.

The Shaykh : That he used to recite it in every
Abd al-Malik: Yes.

The Shaykh : Friday sermon.
Abd al-Malik: Yes.

The Shaykh : Ah, I am not standing [in the position] in my mind right now. What came to my mind is that she memorized it from the sum of what she heard from the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) in the Friday sermons. But I hold to the principle that whoever memorizes is an argument against whoever does not memorize. So I say, if the hadith is like this, that does not mean we should ignore the athar of Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) which commands us to speak to people according to their understanding. Do you want Allah and His Messenger to be lied to? For example, a scholar in a non-Arab country, it is not correct for him to speak in Arabic; rather, he preaches to them in the language of his people:
And We did not send any messenger except [speaking] in the language of his people to state clearly for them وما أرسلنا من رسول إلا بلسان قومه ليبين لهم
[Ibrahim 14:4]
The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), first of all, when he used to preach with Surat Qaf, he was among his Arab people. These Arabs were, and still are, a byword for the strength of their memory. They have a memory like a magnet. Now you do not find this characteristic in the Arabs because they have become non-Arabic-speaking, while others have become Arabized. But they did not become Arabs, meaning they did not adopt their morals, but they learned this language and became Arabized. The point is, do you have now a woman who can, excuse me, I made a mistake, I meant to say a man, do you have a man who memorizes from the preacher if he delivers a chapter
Qق
he memorizes it, he memorizes this chapter as that noble woman memorized it? This is very, very rare. And my goal with this whole speech is that the preacher must consider the situation of the audience he is preaching to. If they have the psychological and cultural readiness to read the whole chapter, he reads it. You know that it is from the Sunnah to recite in the Fajr prayer of Friday, for example, Surat al-Sajdah and Surat al-Dahr (al-Haqqah), yes. But most congregations today do not have this worshipful spirit that is patient with standing for the length of these two chapters. So the matter is as he (peace and blessings be upon him) said in some authentic hadiths:
Aim for the right and be near. سددوا وقاربوا
Aim for the right and be near. So on this basis, I recommend, and in any case, I will not miss saying that the witness sees what the absent one does not see. I recommend, and I am absent, that you take from the chapter what relates to the stations of the Day of Resurrection and what is in it of encouragement and warning, and the like. There is no objection to reciting this chapter sometimes, but with a note of attention to some of the verses and their interpretation. Because I really, due to the communications that have taken place between us and our brothers in Algeria, feel that foreignness has started to seep into many of them. That is, they do not understand me, and I do not understand them, in many cases. So I feel that they are in need of some clarification of some of the verses of the Noble Qur'an that are recited. So, what did you intend regarding your statement that you recite with Surat
Qق
in the Friday sermon?
Abd al-Malik: I only wanted your comment on this, in terms of confirming it or correcting it.

The Shaykh : Yes, may Allah reward you with good.
Abd al-Malik: May Allah reward you with good, may Allah bless you.

The Shaykh : And may He bless you.
Abd al-Malik: May Allah preserve you, our Shaykh, and may Allah reward you with good.

The Shaykh : Welcome.
