The questioner : What is the description of the funeral prayer reported from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding the takbir and raising the hands? Please rule for us on this, may Allah reward you with good.
The Shaykh : Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and I send prayers and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow them in excellence until the Day of Judgment. The description of the funeral prayer is that the one praying moves forward to the deceased; if it is a man, he stands at his head, and if it is a woman, he stands at her middle. Then he says the takbir while raising his hands, then he seeks refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan and recites al-Fatihah. Then he says the takbir while raising his hands and recites the prayer upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), saying:Sahih al-Bukhari 3370 Then he says the takbir while raising his hands and makes a supplication, saying: Mishkat al-Masabih 1675, 1676 This is a general supplication said for both the young and the old: This is for the adults, whereas for the child, he says after the general supplication: O Allah, make him a forerunner for his parents and a store of good, and an intercessor whose intercession is accepted. O Allah, make his deeds weigh heavily in their scales, and make his reward great for them, and join him with the righteous predecessors of the believers, and place him in the care of Ibrahim. Then he says the takbir while raising his hands, the fourth takbir, and some scholars preferred that he say after it: [Al-Baqarah 2:201] Some others preferred that it be said: And some others preferred that he say nothing, but rather say the takbir and stand for a short while, then say the salam once to his right: Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah. If he says the takbir five times, there is no harm, for that has been established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Some scholars added: there is no harm in saying the takbir six or seven times. If the Sunnah is authentic regarding this, then the matter is as they said; and if the Sunnah is not authentic regarding this, then restricting oneself to what has been reported is the straight path.

Say: O Allah! Send Your Mercy on Muhammad and on the family of Muhammad, as You sent Your Mercy on Abraham and on the family of Abraham, for You are the Most Praise-worthy, the Most Glorious. O Allah! Send Your Blessings on Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as You sent your Blessings on Abraham and on the family of Abraham, for You are the Most Praise-worthy, the Most Glorious.
O God, forgive those of us who are living and those of us who are dead, those of us who are present and those of us who are absent, our young and our old, our male and our female. O God, to whomsoever of us Thou givest life keep him faithful to Islam whilst Thou givest him life, and whomsoever of us Thou takest in death take him as a believer
O Allah! Forgive him, have mercy on him, grant him well-being, and pardon him. Honor his guest and widen his entrance. Wash him with water, snow, and hail, and purify him from sins as the white garment is purified from dirt. O Allah! Replace his home with a better home, his family with a better family, and his wife with a better wife. O Allah! Expand his grave for him and illuminate it for him.
Our Lord, give us in this world [that which is] good and in the Hereafter [that which is] good and protect us from the punishment of the Fire."
رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِO Allah! Do not deprive us of his reward, and do not test us after him, and forgive us and him.
