What is the ruling on a mother’s permission for jihad in Palestine, as opposed to Afghanistan?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : The second point, which is the same field of jihad in the path of Allah, is that we have learned or heard that some of our neighbors went for 'Umrah or Hajj, and their share was to go to Afghanistan and fight in the path of Allah. So the matter was raised before the mother; the father had passed away—may Allah have mercy on him.

The Shaykh : He passed away to the mercy of Allah. Yes.

The questioner : As for the mother, she says: No, if it is for Palestine and Jerusalem, may Allah make it easy for you, the six of you.

The Shaykh: If what?

The questioner : If it is for Palestine or Jerusalem, may Allah make it easy for you, the six of you, good luck; but as for Afghanistan...

Another questioner : She has three sons.

The Shaykh : ... .

Another questioner : ...six for Palestine.

The Shaykh : What Allah willed! Yes.

The questioner : ...that we have Palestine here, and the reward is written for us, or the obligation is upon us in addition to Afghanistan; to clarify this matter, may Allah reward you with good?

The Shaykh : Yes, there is no doubt that this statement is incorrect in terms of distinguishing between the Palestinian lands and the Afghan lands. This is undoubtedly a matter stemming first from ignorance of Islam, and second from fanaticism for the land. There is no doubt that the Palestinian lands, being part of the Levant, are blessed land by the text of the Noble Qur'an and the authentic hadiths. However, this does not mean distinguishing between jihad in this land and jihad in other Islamic lands like Afghanistan. Because it is established in the Shari'ah that if any Islamic land is attacked by some disbelievers, it is obligatory for all Muslims in all parts of the world to mobilize in their entirety to expel this invading disbeliever from that Islamic country. So distinguishing between giving charity with one son and waiving the right to six sons for the sake of jihad in Palestine, while—as we all know with great regret—this jihad in Palestine is currently not feasible and not possible due to circumstances we all know; distinguishing between this jihad allows this mother to permit all six of her sons but not permit one of them for jihad in Afghanistan, even though the way there is open; this is an error. And as I told you earlier, this stems first from a lack of knowledge of the Shari'ah rulings, and second from fanaticism for the land in which we lived or were born.
And we ask Allah—Mighty and Majestic—to teach us what benefits us, and to inspire us to act upon what He has taught us.

The questioner : Okay; going out without the permission of this mother—Honorific Shaykh—if she permits, the going out of the sons or one of them without the permission of the mother or the father?

The Shaykh : If the mother is the one who permitted the six, then it is permissible to go out without her permission.
