Discussion of the second part of the statement; namely his saying: (and that we do not worship Him except by what He has prescribed), and clarification of the disagreement that has occurred regarding:

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : That we do not worship Allah except by what He has prescribed; here lies a very serious scholarly issue, as long as the later scholars have disagreed on it, and only the fewest of them have been spared from the blameworthy disagreement. I mean by this their disagreement on: Does a good bid'ah (religious innovation) exist in Islam or not?
The majority of the later scholars—regrettably—hold, in their statement, principle, and belief, that there is a good bid'ah (religious innovation) in Islam. Opposing them are those we referred to, namely the fewest, who say what the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said in the many hadiths, among which is what you heard at the beginning of our speech this evening. It is the one that is always recited in the sermon of necessity (khutbat al-hajah) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) taught his Companions. We usually begin our sermons and speeches with this sermon, then we follow it with what the Messenger (peace be upon him) used to follow the sermon of necessity with in the Friday sermons; where he (peace and blessings be upon him) would say in the Friday sermon:
As for what follows, the best of speech is the speech of Allah, and the best of guidance is the guidance of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), and the worst of matters are their innovations, and every innovation is a bid'ah (religious innovation), and every bid'ah is misguidance, and every misguidance is in the Fire.
.
The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's prayers and peace be upon him) used to repeat this comprehensive phrase:
every innovation is going astray, and every going astray is in the Fire كل بدعة ضلالة ، وكل ضلالة في النار
Sunan an-Nasa'i 1578Sahih (Darussalam)
so that it would be firmly established in the minds. The fewest were guided by the guidance of Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He), so they held fast to the words of the Messenger (peace be upon him) in their generality and comprehensiveness; and they said as he (peace be upon him) said:
every innovation is going astray, and every going astray is in the Fire كل بدعة ضلالة ، وكل ضلالة في النار
Sunan an-Nasa'i 1578Sahih (Darussalam)
.
