The Shaykh : We are now moving to a new chapter from the chapters of al-Adab al-Mufrad by Imam al-Bukhari, which is his saying: "The Chapter on Stinginess". He also narrates with his authentic chain from Jabir, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Who is your chief, O Banu Salama? من سيدكم يا بني سلمة
Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 14:38
Who is your chief? Who is the highest among you and the one who leads you? We said: "Jad ibn Qays", an Arabic name. They said: This is our chief, Jad ibn Qays. But a group of Arabs and Muslims, who are truthful in what they say, after mentioning that their chief is so-and-so, followed that by saying: "but we find him stingy". They mentioned a defect in him, and "but we find him stingy" means we find him stingy, even though he is our chief. It is expected that a chief be noble and generous, but this is contrary to that; we find him stingy. The Messenger (peace be upon him) responded to them by saying:
What illness is worse و أي داء أدوى
Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 14:38
Its origin is the most severe disease
What illness is worse than miserliness? Rather, your chief is 'Amr ibn al-Jamuh. و أي داء أدوى من البخل بل سيدكم عمرو بن الجموح
Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 14:38
