Explanation of the First Issue, Which Is the Diligence in the Remembrance of Allah: Verbal Remembrance and Practical Remembrance
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : ... As for the first issue, it is necessary that the Muslim is always in the remembrance of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), in the remembrance of the teachings of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). For His saying (Blessed and Exalted is He) [Al-Ahzab 33:41] includes practical remembrance, not just verbal remembrance. For example, practical remembrance is when a person is walking on the road and phlegm comes up in his mouth, and he wants to spit this waste out of his mouth, so he spits it in front of him as he is on his way. Here is a remembrance of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) that few people remember: before you spit what is in your mouth, you must consider whether you are facing the qiblah or not. If you are facing the qiblah, it is obligatory that you do not spit in front of you, out of respect for the direction of the qiblah, based on his saying (peace and blessings be upon him) . This is from the etiquettes of the early Muslims that has become forgotten by the later generations. You hardly see a Muslim who remembers this Islamic etiquette, even if he is in the mosque. We have often seen some people in the mosque, and it has windows overlooking the direction of the qiblah, and they come and spit in the direction they prayed toward, or the direction they will soon pray toward. This is negligence regarding the remembrance of Allah. But this type of remembrance is not known, unfortunately, by the people of remembrance who are innovators, when they dance in their dhikr sessions, and they do not know of the remembrance of Allah except this type which has no basis in the Book of Allah or in the hadith of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). My intention in mentioning this issue is not to focus on it, but rather its sister issue, which is closer to the one who prays than this one. If it is not permissible for a Muslim to spit toward the qiblah while he is walking or sitting, not in prayer, not standing facing Allah (Mighty and Majestic) in his prayer with all his limbs, then it is even more impermissible for him to spit toward the qiblah while he is praying, and even more so. There are many hadiths regarding this, but we are not currently addressing them.
