'Aid 'Abassi: There are other matters that characterize them, and among their principles and focal points is a negative aspect: warning against the matters of religious innovation and the newly invented things that have entered the religion, distorting its beauty, clouding its purity, and muddying its former beauty and cleanness. These innovations entered the religion, altering Allah’s ruling and misleading the people. The Salafis are concerned with alerting people to them and warning them against them. Following [the Sunnah] is not easy; the matter is not as some say, that there are "legal matters" where one asks, "What is the harm in it? More good is better." The reality of innovation is that it is a correction of Allah the Exalted, and it is legislation by opinion and intellect. This is what is said to you: that you worship with it and draw near to Allah the Exalted with it. What is the basis for that? It is nothing but opinion and juristic preference, and it abrogates the verse [Al-Ma'idah 5:3] from its foundation, as well as other verses. Although the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) warned us against innovations many times, and said (peace and blessings be upon him) , and he placed it in the sermon of necessity, which he repeated every week in the Friday sermon and in other gatherings, all of this to emphasize and remind of the danger of innovations and the importance of adhering to what came to us from Allah and His Messenger. Nevertheless, these later generations have deafened their ears to these clear hadiths and the clear texts of the Book, and they have persisted in innovations and increased in them.
