The Shaykh : ...
Fight those who do not believe in Allah or in the Last Day and who do not consider unlawful what Allah and His Messenger have made unlawful and who do not adopt the religion of truth from those who were given the Scripture - [fight] until they give the jizyah willingly while they are humbled.
[At-Tawbah 9:29]
, so these people do not prohibit or permit, and thus we find ourselves walking behind them, panting and imitating them in everything they do, without weighing what we wish to benefit from them for our worldly life, let alone our Hereafter, with the scale of the Shari'ah and the straight balance.
Education today has become a matter of imitation; therefore, it is necessary to study these means that we have taken from the Europeans within the limits of the Islamic Shari'ah. For example, I will give you a very simple example. We want, for instance, to explain to the student what a "camel" is. What do we draw for him? A picture of a camel. In our lands, the camel is always going and coming, and so on. But if this picture is drawn in countries where there are no camels, it takes on a ruling different from the previous one; because we said earlier: "Necessity is estimated according to its extent." But no; this is a disordered system. In Europe, for example, camels are not known. Since they provide students there with a picture of a camel, it is necessary for us to provide our Arab students with what? A picture of a camel. This is a small and very small example.
In summary: This teacher must, above all, understand the religion and be keen to apply its rulings. One of those rulings is that necessity is estimated according to its extent. So he should not run after the reading, for example, or the prescribed book for students, which contains images of every kind, just because this teacher feels that there is a need to draw them and present them to the students, or because he feels there is no need. Within these limits, it is permissible for the Muslim teacher to use means of image-making for which he finds no other means that suffices him.
