What is the secret behind Muslims turning away from Islam and their ignorance of it? "Muhammad 'Ayd 'Abbas" answered this.

Eid Abbasi : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
All praise is due to Allah; we praise Him, seek His help, and seek His forgiveness. We seek refuge in Allah from the evil of our own souls and from the badness of our deeds. Whom Allah guides, none can mislead, and whom He leaves to mislead, none can guide. And I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, with no partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and His Messenger. It is permissible for the speaker to take the word while the professor rests from one of the questions that came up here. I will read it to you. The questioner says:
What is the secret behind Muslims turning away from Islam and their ignorance of it?
I will say what is possible in this area. As for the reason for Muslims turning away from Islam, it has several causes. One of them is the doubts that arise before them or that they hear regarding Islam. Many of the enemies of Islam, whether atheists, disbelievers, or those hostile to Muslims of any kind, raise doubts about Islam. They say, "This is a regressive religion," or "This is a religion that, for example, contradicts science, contradicts progress, contradicts such and such." They raise doubts about the existence of Allah, about the suitability of Islam for life, and so on. This is the first and major cause of Muslims turning away from Islam: the doubts raised about Islam.
Among the other causes are also the desires that divert people from their religion. It is well known that Allah commanded people to follow His commands and avoid His prohibitions. But what diverts many of them from that is following their desires: the desire for leadership, the desire for the world, the desire for wealth, the desire for fame and interests, and the like. Another cause is ignorance of Islam. Many people are ignorant of Islam in its true reality. Many people do not know the religion that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) sent down pure and clear, as He sent it down to the heart of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). Rather, all they see of Islam, or all they know about it, is the current state of Muslims: backwardness, delay, and contradictions in words from here and there, which are not based on a methodology nor on correct knowledge.
After that, it is permissible to return to these causes and mention how they are treated. As for the first cause, which is the doubts raised by the enemies of Islam about Islam, the cure for the ailment is asking questions. "The ailment is asking questions," as the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said in the hadith.

The Shaykh : (peace and blessings be upon him).

Eid Abbasi : So it is only upon the Muslim to learn the Book of his Lord and the Sunnah of his Prophet and to draw from them. When that happens, he will find the correct cure, and the veils of ignorance and rust will be removed from the hearts of many of those whom the enemies of Islam have prevented from the religion of their Lord (Glorified and Exalted is He).
But there is something that must also be noted in this area. It is that many Muslims hear—now we see the general public of Muslims hearing the words of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) recited to them on the radio, on the pulpits, in books. They hear the Qur'an day and night, yet you see that it does not move them, nor does it change their state. They remain sitting upon their wrongdoings as if it has no effect on them. What is the reason? Here it becomes clear that knowledge alone is not sufficient. There must be a second aspect: we must look at the biography of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). We find that he (peace and blessings be upon him) remained for thirteen years in Makkah. What was he doing? What was he teaching people? What was he delivering to them? The great, important axis around which the call revolved was tawhid (the oneness of Allah) and faith in Allah (Mighty and Majestic), and affirming His existence and His oneness...
