The questioner : Is the use of contraceptive pills to complete breastfeeding sinful? Please inform us, may you be rewarded.

The Shaykh : What a woman and her husband should strive for is having many children, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Marry the loving and fertile women تزوجوا الودود الولود
meaning those who give birth frequently. Also, a large number of children is a source of honor, support, and elevation for the family, and it provides self-sufficiency from others. Furthermore, a person may need his children in the future when they grow up, and the more numerous they are, the more honored he is. The poet says:
"I am not the most numerous of them in pebbles, *** but honor belongs to the one who is numerous" As for what some women imagine, that if children are numerous, the fatigue increases, the upbringing becomes difficult, and the provision becomes narrow, this is an illusion with no reality. For there is no creature on earth except that Allah provides for it, and whenever a child is born to a person, Allah opens for him a door of provision. Had it not been for the child, he would not have obtained that, for the child's provision is upon Allah. How many people have been provided for through the provision of their children. As for upbringing, it is true that the more children there are and the more they follow one another, the greater the hardship and difficulty. But with patience and seeking reward, the reward and recompense increase. Then, guidance is in the hand of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). It may be that one child causes his father and mother much trouble in his upbringing, and they do not obtain what they desire. And it may be that ten children are easy to raise, and the parents obtain what they desire of good character. Success is in the hand of Allah. Whenever a person seeks help from his Lord, relies upon Him, places his trust in Him, and does what the Shari'ah has indicated, let him be glad of good.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good.
