Are these designations currently found in the public sphere, such as "Salafi" and others, permissible?

The questioner : There is a question directed at you, O Shaykh, regarding whether these numerous designations used by groups, such as "Salafi" and others, are permissible. Are these designations a form of division in religion, or are such designations permissible? We ask you to inform us about this.

The Shaykh: Praise is to Allah; we praise Him, seek His help, and seek His forgiveness. We seek refuge in Allah from the evils of our own selves and from the badness of our deeds. Whomsoever Allah guides, none can misguide, and whomsoever He leaves to misguide, none can guide. And I bear witness that there is no deity but Allah alone, with no partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and His Messenger,
O you who have believed, fear Allah as He should be feared and do not die except as Muslims [in submission to Him].
[Ali 'Imran 3:102]
,
O mankind, fear your Lord, who created you from one soul and created from it its mate and dispersed from both of them many men and women. And fear Allah, through whom you ask one another, and the wombs. Indeed Allah is ever, over you, an Observer.
[An-Nisa 4:1]
,
(70) O you who have believed, fear Allah and speak words of appropriate justice. (71) He will [then] amend for you your deeds and forgive you your sins. And whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger has certainly attained a great attainment.
[Al-Ahzab 33:70-71]
. As for what follows:
Indeed, the best of speech is the speech of Allah, and the best of guidance is the guidance of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), and the worst of matters are their innovations, and every innovation is a religious innovation, and every religious innovation is misguidance, and every misguidance is in the Fire. And after that:
As for these names that are common in this time, by which some Islamic groups designate themselves, I personally see no harm in these names, provided that they do not lead to pre-Islamic tribalism. It should also be noted that there is a difference between one name and another. A group that, by its slogan and name, belongs to a specific gathering, a specific Shaykh, or a specific coalition that does not include other gatherings and coalitions, this is a great difference from another name that gathers all the groups, as long as they all fall within the circle of comprehensive, general Islam. In my opinion, it is not important for us to speak in detail about the many names currently proposed in the Muslim world for these numerous groups, as much as it is important for us to establish for these people and others that the name by which we have agreed to designate ourselves or to which we belong is the Salaf al-Salih (the Pious Predecessors). Because of our belonging to them, we say about ourselves: We are Salafis.
