Naming with Rama
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 21797 )
Q: What is the ruling of the Shari'ah regarding naming a child "Rama" , where some have stated that it is not permissible because there is a temple in India with that name, as well as names of non-Muslims? I am waiting for this fatwa to change the name? May Allah reward you with good.
A: There is nothing wrong with naming with what was mentioned; because the original ruling for names is permissibility, except for what is worshipped other than Allah. However, if it is established that the name mentioned is the name of a temple in which other than Allah is worshipped, then it is not permissible to name with it; because that would be an exaltation of that temple and a promotion of its mention. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
