Naming with Shu'ay

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The third question of Fatwa number ( 20617 )
Q3: What is the ruling on naming with the following names: (Shu'ay, Shu'ayya, 'Abd, Mishniyya)?
A3: It is disliked to name someone Shu'ay or Shu'ayya; because they contain
bad meanings, and because naming with them suggests confusion with some prohibited designations. Likewise, naming with Mishniyya is disliked; because this name linguistically indicates bad meanings such as fatigue, hatred, and the like. As for naming with 'Abd, there is no harm in it, but it is better to leave it; because it does not indicate a complete meaning, and because it contains ambiguity and generality. The safest and prescribed course is for a person to be worshipped by one of the names of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He). It is authentically reported from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that the names most beloved to Allah are 'Abd Allah and 'Abd al-Rahman. It is the right of the child over his father that he beautify his name and name him with a name that has noble, exalted meanings with no religious objection. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
