Abu Layla: My teacher, I have a hadith I would like to ask about. Sahih Muslim 1782a. It was narrated by al-Tirmidhi and in Sahih al-Jami'; and the hadith . And his saying . It is found in al-Bukhari from al-Fath. What is the reconciliation between these two hadiths?
The Shaykh: Attacking, my brother, is not the destruction of the Ka'bah.
Abu Layla: Attacking is not the destruction of the Ka'bah.
The Shaykh: Yes, attacking means making the Ka'bah unlawful and enslaving its people, and so on. This is from one aspect; and attacking the Ka'bah may happen as a raid followed by a defeat.
Abu Layla: A raid and a defeat.
The Shaykh: A raid followed by a defeat; a raid that is followed by a defeat. This is one of two aspects for reconciliation. The second aspect is that it will not be attacked except in the end of time, and in the end of time the Ka'bah will be demolished stone by stone; as for before that, it will not be attacked. Is that clear to you?
