Adding the sending of blessings upon the Companions alongside the sending of blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in the sermons is a religious innovation.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : ... because he presents the image as it comes, saying: He tells the masses of Muslims, "Hey, the masses of Muslims made a mistake when they send blessings upon the Companions in their sermons. Praise be to Allah, and blessings and peace upon the Messenger of Allah and his family and his Companions. The phrase 'and his Companions' is a bid'ah (religious innovation). Why? Because the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked how to send blessings upon him, and he said:
and say: Alahumma salli 'ala Muhammad wa 'ala ali Muhammad (O Allah, send salah upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad). قولوا: اللهم صل على محمد وعلى آل محمد
Sunan an-Nasa'i 1292Hasan (Darussalam)
That is all. So this addition does not mention the Companions. And as is his custom and his rambling, the hadith came through many very numerous routes, and in not a single hadith are the Companions mentioned. This statement is sound, but this is regarding the Ibrahimiyyah prayer (the prescribed formula of sending blessings). No one among the Muslims adds this addition, the sending of blessings upon the Companions, in the Ibrahimiyyah prayer. So whoever reads his words, if he is bound by the hadith in its entirety, he might assume from his words that Muslims add the sending of blessings upon the Companions in the Ibrahimiyyah prayer, and no one does this. But most readers do not know that this hadith has a continuation, and this continuation clarifies that this instruction is specific to the prayer, in the Ibrahimiyyah prayer, such that it is permissible for him to cite evidence for the innovativeness of adding the sending of blessings upon the Companions alongside the Messenger (peace be upon him) in other than the Ibrahimiyyah prayer, at the time when he presents this statement which he admits is the instruction of the Messenger, and that it is not permissible to add to it, and that this is a bid'ah. The claim is correct, but what he claimed is not the case, because the Muslims did not add to the Ibrahimiyyah prayer, and where do they send blessings upon the Companions? In their words, for example, in their sermons, in the books, as Allah wills, that is it. So there, I ... the innovation, because I mention in some of my books, "Blessings and peace upon the Messenger of Allah and his family and his Companions." This addition, "and his Companions," is a bid'ah. ... This addition is not in the instruction of the Messenger (peace be upon him), unlike the addition in the Ibrahimiyyah prayer. So it is an addition to his instruction, as he rightly said. Adding to the instruction of the Messenger is a correction of him, and this is not permissible. The statement is correct. How did you innovate an addition to say: "O Allah, send blessings upon our master Muhammad"? The poor man says, "We did not bring this except from his saying (peace be upon him):
I shall be pre-eminent among the descendants of Adam أنا سيد ولد آدم
Sunan Abi Dawud 4673Sahih (Al-Albani)
What did he bring for this? He continues after the issue of sending blessings upon the Companions. If I told someone, "Okay, where did they get the idea to send blessings upon the Companions?" They got it from "May Allah send blessings upon you and your wife," in the story of Jabir, and
Allhumma, salli ala ali abi awfa(O Allah! Send blessing upon the family of Abu Awfa). اللهم صلي على آل أبي أوفى
Sunan Ibn Majah 1796Sahih (Darussalam)
Yes, so they did not bring anything from their own pockets. Yes, so they did not add anything from their own pockets. How can you say we did not bring anything from ourselves? And he claims that we must combine the hadiths. The statement in its origin is admitted that the ruling is not taken from a single hadith. But if the report has no relation to the rulings of the Shari'ah, I am the master of the children of Adam, and you put: "O Allah, send blessings upon our master" in the place where the Messenger informed about himself that he is the master of the children of Adam. And it is established from the Messenger in more than one hadith that he sent blessings upon many of the Companions. We ask you to send blessings upon the Companions, and this is a bid'ah. So this is a thousand-page message in which he talks about ... your understanding of the religion absolutely.
The student : He has a message, or to his brother 'Abd al-'Aziz: "The Understanding and Comprehension of the Meaning of Leaving (Tark)."
The student: It is, it is. 'Abdullah. It is included in this message at the end.

The Shaykh : Who is Abu 'Abdullah.
The student: Abdullah.

The Shaykh: Abdullah.
The student : He talks about the meaning of leaving (tark) that al-Shatibi and others from the scholars of knowledge discuss.

The Shaykh : Yes, exactly.
The student : Meaning, he clarifies by inverting the facts, of course, as is his usual manner in this matter.

The Shaykh : Yes, unfortunately.
