The first question of Fatwa No. ( 15632 )
Q 1: When the imam delivers the sermon on Friday, especially when he proceeds to mention the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), for example when the imam says, as in the verse:[Al-Ahzab 33:56], the attendees say in a loud, collective voice: “O Allah, send blessings upon him and his family.”
Is this a religious innovation, or was it reported on the tongue of the best of Allah’s creation, Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), or from his Companions?
A 1: Raising the voice in sending blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while the imam is delivering the sermon is a religious innovation with no basis. It is obligatory for every Muslim to send blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to himself when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is mentioned. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions.
