Discussion on the attribute of hurrah and the continuation of the discussion on the attribute of nearness.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : The saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about his Lord (Glorified and Exalted is He):
and he who walks towards Me I rush towards him من أتاني يمشي أتيته هرولة
Sahih Muslim 2687a
It is the same thing.
؟

The Shaykh : What remains is what we investigate in it.

The questioner : And likewise:
When he draws near Me by the span of his hand. I draw near him by the length of a cubit من تقرب إلي شبرا تقربت إليه ذراعا
Sahih Muslim 2675h
?

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : Is that so?

The Shaykh : Likewise.

The questioner : All right, our Shaykh, is there any impediment to saying: one draws near through obedience, so Allah draws near to him with forgiveness and mercy, and the raising of degrees, and so on?

The Shaykh : It is like your guidance, yes, this is like your guidance.
Al-Halabi : This is part of the meaning, not the complete meaning; Shaykh al-Islam, our Shaykh, our teacher, has a word on this, saying: "The nearness of one thing to another opposite thing necessitates the nearness of the other to it."

The Shaykh : Yes, indeed.

The questioner : Does the hadith of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about that man who asked the Prophet to admit him to Paradise and keep him far from the Fire,
help me to achieve this for you by devoting yourself often to prostration أعني على نفسك بكثرة السجود
Sahih Muslim 489
, have a connection to the issue of nearness or interrelation?

The Shaykh : What nearness?

The questioner : The nearness in the hadith:
The closest a servant is to his Lord is when he is prostrating. أقرب ما يكون العبد لربه وهو ساجد
, meaning, in its sense, that when one prostrates, he is near to Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He), and consequently Allah responds to him?

The Shaykh : Of course, this meaning is present implicitly, but what is intended?
Al-Halabi : That is not what is intended.

The Shaykh : Yes, all of this resembles one another, and the intended meaning, as I have said repeatedly in the discussion of tawassul (seeking nearness to Allah through a means), is that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), in his wisdom, when a person asks him for something, such as supplication, does not make him rely on him, but rather occupies him with obedience. He says to him: "You have that, but help me in that by increasing prostration," meaning, do not rely on what I have promised you, but help yourself to obtain what you want by increasing worship and prostration to Allah (Mighty and Majestic). And the fact that he remained near to Allah came implicitly; that is not the intended meaning. The intended meaning is that he should not rely on the Prophet's promise to him, but rather be helped to achieve his request by increasing his obedience to his Lord, especially prostration to Him.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good.
