Can a Muslim see his Lord or hear His voice in a dream?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Is it possible for a person to see his Lord or hear His voice in a dream?

The Shaykh : As for seeing Him in a dream, the matter is broad; because the issue is most like an imagination; because Allah, as He said (peace and blessings be upon him) in one of the narrations of the hadith of the Dajjal, when he described him (peace and blessings be upon him), said:
He is blind in one eye, and your Lord is not blind in one eye إنه أعور وإن ربكم ليس بأعور
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2245Sahih (Darussalam)
In a narration in Sahih Muslim, he said:
And none of you will see his Lord until he dies. وإن أحدكم لن يرى ربَّه حتى يموت
As for the dream vision, it is an imaginary vision, and a narration is attributed to Imam Ahmad that he saw his Lord so many times, and Allah knows best about its authenticity, as for hearing the voice, this is ... impossible unless it is also by the grace of imagination.

The questioner : Yes, the hadith
My Lord, Blessed is He and Most High, came to me in the best of appearances أتاني ربي في أحسن صورة
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3234Hasan (Darussalam)

The Shaykh : This is an authentic hadith, this is in a dream.

The questioner : Yes, in a dream, so it establishes the vision in a dream.

The Shaykh : But the question was general, it was not specific to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him)?

The questioner : So is it specific to the Messenger?

The Shaykh : Of course.

The questioner : ... Ibn Taymiyyah says this is permissible, that a person sees his Lord in a dream, arguing with this hadith or that Imam Ahmad, meaning, saw his Lord in a dream.

The Shaykh : I answered similarly to this, but I differ from what you quote from Ibn Taymiyyah. We say: arguing with the hadith is not valid; because this does not contain generality, rather it is a specificity for the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), but in terms of the imaginary possibility which has no limits, this is possible.
